Apart from decades of breakthrough works on copper-dioxygen chemistry, recent efforts from the Karlin lab illustrate the details of nitric oxide activation at a mononuclear copper site. The latest report spearheaded by Karlin’s former graduate student Mayukh Bhadra (now a postdoctoral associate in chemistry at M.I.T., with Prof. Liz Nolan), with an international team of distinguished collaborators, decipher the mechanistic details of the reductive coupling of two nitric oxide molecules to form the key hyponitrite intermediates.
