The manuscript describes preparation of various hydropersulfide (RSSH) donors that show potent effects against oxidative stress as well as increases in intracellular sulfane sulfur levels.  Modification of protein cysteine residues to hydropersulfides (Cys-SH to Cys-SSH) is a key post-translational modification that is thought to protect cysteine residues from over oxidation.
