Congratulations to Desta Bume, Stefan Harry, and Cody Ross Pitts of the Lectka Group for their paper entitled “Catalyzed and Promoted Aliphatic Fluorination” (J. Org. Chem. 2018, 83, 8803) and its associated cover art. Metro systems in German speaking parts of Europe are often termed U-bahns, in which trains glide primarily within underground tunnels along branching and interconnecting lines. In a whimsical way, forays into catalyzed aliphatic fluorination can be thought of analogously, with each “F-bahn” line gliding within the city of fluorine to represent a different project and each stop a different method, milestone, difficulty, or dead end.
